Dan Măciucă mastered the classical techniques of painting, but the trait that distinguishes him from his generation is the importance given to the abstract dimension. The artist is one of the most important representatives of Abstract Expressionism in the Eastern European contemporary art.
Dan Măciucă uses heavy strokes of color applied with spontaneous gestures, remained imprinted in the depth of color. The paintings form an abstract image, but at the second glance, they are recomposed in volumes suggesting water in one of its most menacing forms. The painting itself borrows from the dual character of the wave - apparent force and unrest and disorder, on the one hand and rational structure, equipped with sense, motion and power, on the other hand.
