Ștefan Bertalan

Leading figure of the artistic life in Timișoara, Ștefan Bertalan, professional artist, is recognized and appreciated both nationally and internationally. He is one of the first supporters and promoters of neo-avantgarde artistic and innovative movements in Banat and România. He is also the founder of the design and experimental art school in Timișoara and in Romania, and also co-founder of the Group 111, the first experimental group in România. Between 1970s-1980s, he was a member of the famous experimental art group Sigma 1. Since 1964, he was a member of the Timisoara branch of the Union of Artists.
The avanpost artistic position that Timisoara still holds is due to the sustained efforts of the local artists and, in particular, to Ștefan Bertalan.
