Ion Grigorescu

The artist Ion Grigorescu is part of the Prolog Group. His artistic work includes paintings, drawings, engravings, religious paintings, icons, photography and video art. First he was a school drawing teache, then turned to restoration. He is a painter, illustrator and Romanian essayist, objector of the communist regime and system, critic of the consumerist society of today, leading personality of the Romanian and European art world.
Ion Grigorescu published theoretical texts, journal pages, studies of the history of photography in Arta and Secolul 20 magazines. His work was unknown for a long time, gaining reputation across the borders of Romania only after the 1990s. He is now considered to be an exceptional artist and his works, precious landmarks in the contemporary artistic landscape. Ion Grigorescu approached topics such as sexuality, human body and especially the omnipresence of the political landscape. Ion Grigorescu is not a typical artist.
